Every year Blue Ridge Fellows invites a select group of highly talented, hard-working college grads to begin their careers in Roanoke. As numerous local employers have found, Blue Ridge Fellows provide excellent value to their employers across a variety of industries. For the coming year, the fellows will be available to work Tuesday, September 10, 2024, until Friday, May 23, 2025.

The fellows work 24-32 hours a week during the hours set by the employer, provided they do not conflict with the commitments of the program.

Fellows are unavailable:

Sundays 8 am-1 pm, 5 pm-7 pm
Mondays 11 am-3 pm
Tuesdays 6 pm-9 pm
Wednesdays 6 pm-9 pm.

We ask that employers compensate the fellows for their work; the exact wage varies depending on the job and training/experience of the fellow.  Benefits are not expected. W2 employment is preferred; however, if 1099 is necessary we ask that compensation consider the additional expense of SECA payments.

The following are dates when the fellows are typically excused from the workplace without pay:

·       Christmas break: December 24- January 1 (may be optional if employed in the medical industry)

·       International Service Trip: (February. One week. Dates TBD)

·       In some situations, fellows can begin work prior to the official start, which is one week after Labor Day.  In addition, very often employers make long-term offers of employment to their fellow after the completion of their fellow year.  In either case it is important to note that fellows have mandatory week-long orientation and debrief retreats the week after Labor Day and the week before Memorial Day, during which they are unavailable to work.

If you are interested in hiring a well-qualified, personally mature, Blue Ridge Fellow please contact Blue Ridge Fellows Director, Tim Henderson, at tim@blueridgefellows.org. Resumes of all fellows are available upon request.
